Italian rocket builder Avio has secured a contract from MBDA Italia worth just under €150 million to supply rocket motors for the CAMM-ER missile system.
In 2023, MBDA Italia awarded Avio an initial contract for the production of CAMM-ER (Common Anti-air Modular Missile – Extended Range) rocket motors, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2025 and continue for approximately four years. This collaboration was further strengthened following MBDA’s agreement with Poland on the country’s Narew project, which includes Avio’s supply of CAMM-ER boosters. The project is valued at €4 billion and includes the supply of more than 1,000 CAMM-ER missiles.
On 4 December, Avio announced a new contract with MBDA Italia as part of Poland’s Narew program. According to the press release, the contract was finalized on 20 November.
The agreement includes two main components. The first component includes the supply of 340 fully equipped rocket motors, 125 non-equipped motors for integration, and 48 engine kits for technical testing, valued at €57.28 million.
The second element of the deal involves a technology transfer to the Polish defence contractor Mesko, enabling local production of the rocket motors. This includes technical support, training, manufacturing equipment, data packages, quality assurance testing, and de-risking measures to mitigate production challenges. This non-recurring supply, valued at €89.59 million, includes a licensing agreement that grants Poland access to Avio’s technology. Avio will receive a €14.45 million one-off fee for the know-how transfer and €4.07 million in royalties for each unit produced in Poland.
