Austrian space propulsion company ENPULSION has secured €22.5 million in new growth funding to expand its footprint in the US.
Founded in 2016, ENPULSION provides electric propulsion systems for micro, nano, and small satellites. According to the company, it has delivered more than 320 propulsion systems using its modular Field-Emission Electric Propulsion (FEEP) technology. FEEP propulsion systems generate thrust through the electrostatic acceleration of ions extracted from a liquid propellant, which in ENPULSION’s systems is an indium-based liquid metal.
On 3 March, ENPULSION announced that it had secured €22.5 million in new funding led by the German growth investment firm Nordwind Growth. According to the company, the new funding will be used to scale production capacity and expand its footprint in the US market.
“ENPULSION is one of the few companies worldwide combining technological maturity, proven flight heritage, and profitability,” said ENPULSION CEO Dr. Alexander Reissner. “This investment empowers us to accelerate our global expansion from a position of strength, with the US market as a key focus.”
In addition to cementing and expanding its current position, ENPULSION plans to use the new funding to support plans to expand beyond propulsion hardware toward integrated “comprehensive mobility solutions for satellite maneuvering, positioning.” According to the company, this shift directly addresses “increasing needs of US satellite operators and government agencies.”
“[This investment] will accelerate our mission to evolve from a leading propulsion equipment supplier into a system supplier, providing turnkey, in-space mobility solutions**,**“ explained Dr. Reissner.
In a post on LinkedIn, Nordwind Growth Investment Manager Philipp Scheidt explained that the firm’s decision to invest was based on structural demand driven by AI and sovereign space ambitions, the company serving a segment growing faster than the broader market, and its established flight heritage. He also highlighted its progress in expanding its product portfolio and its operational profitability.
